The total number of civilians and military personnel killed and wounded on both sides of the war in Ukraine over the past year and a half since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion has reached half a million. Deputy Secretary-General of the UN for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, reported this during a Security Council meeting on August 24th.

"The death of at least 9,444 civilians has been confirmed, including 545 children, and 1,156 children have been injured. The actual numbers are likely much higher. According to some estimates, the total number of killed civilians and military personnel on both sides amounts to half a million", - she said.

DiCarlo added that after russia's exit from the "grain deal" on July 17th, the hostilities only "intensified".

"Attacks on grain facilities can have far-reaching global consequences. They threaten to undermine the progress made in strengthening food security over the past year. This could be a disaster for the 345 million people worldwide who are already experiencing acute food shortages", - noted the UN Deputy Secretary-General.

As reported, in early August, the Ministry of Internal Affairs entered information on 232,131 individuals into the Military Criminal information system, of which 197,857 are russian military personnel.
