President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Kherson oblast and held a meeting on the elimination of the consequences of the explosion at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. The head of state announced this on social media on June 8th.
"Working trip to Kherson oblast. A coordination meeting on the liquidation of consequences of the Kakhovka HPP dam explosion. Many important issues were discussed. The operational situation in the region as a result of the disaster, evacuation of the population from potential flood zones, elimination of the emergency caused by the dam explosion, organization of life support for the flooded areas", - wrote Zelensky.
During the meeting, the participants also discussed the ecological problems of the region and the prospects for its restoration. The military situation in the area affected by the man-made disaster was also discussed.
"It is important to calculate the damage and allocate funds to compensate residents affected by the disaster and develop a program to compensate for losses or relocate businesses within the Kherson oblast", - noted the President.
Earlier, the State Emergency Service reported that 1,995 people were evacuated in the Kherson oblast, including 103 children.
