New burials of civilians and military personnel killed by occupiers were discovered in the Donetsk oblast

After the liberation of the Lyman and Sviatohirsk communities, the police are identifying the locations of makeshift burials and exhuming the bodies of those who died during the occupation and military actions. In total, 385 bodies have been found, of which 309 are civilians. The National Police reported this on May 10.

It is noted that investigators and forensic experts continue to work on the search and identification of those killed as a result of russian military crimes. Local residents, military personnel and special search teams are assisting in this. Since the beginning of de-occupation, 385 bodies have been discovered in the region.

"The police of Donetsk oblast have discovered 385 bodies on the de-occupied territories, of which 309 are civilians. Among the victims of russian aggression are 174 men, 117 women, 6 children, and the gender of 12 others has not been determined", - the report said.

Work to identify the deceased continues. As of today, 282 people have been identified.

The police emphasized that for the past six months, they have been discovering new graves and unidentified bodies on de-occupied territories. Law enforcement officers inspect the areas of shelling, interview local residents, search for relatives of the deceased, establish witnesses and reconstruct events. The goal of the investigators is to establish the identity and fate of every person killed.

"Investigators and forensic laboratories are involved in the exhumation, and in cases of possible mining, bomb technicians are also involved. Information about a person's death is entered into the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations, after which the cause of death is established in a forensic institution. DNA samples are taken from the body for identification, and comparative examinations are conducted with possible relatives", - the police said.

For example, in the village of Bohorodychne, which was almost completely destroyed by russian forces, the exhumation of two elderly women and a man was carried out. The civilians were buried in one of the yards.

The bodies of three more civilian men were exhumed in Lyman.

In addition to civilians, the bodies of military personnel are also being sought. Thus, after the de-occupation of Lyman, a fraternal grave with deceased soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was found in the city cemetery, and painstaking work began to identify each of them.
