Ukrainian journalists received the Pulitzer Prize for photo reports from besieged Mariupol (PHOTO)

Ukrainian journalists Mstyslav Chernov, Yevhen Maloletka, Vasylisa Stepanenko have received the Pulitzer Prize for a series of photo reports from the besieged city of Mariupol. This was announced on May 8 on the prize's website.

It is reported that Ukrainian employees of the Associated Press, Mstyslav Chernov, Yevhen Maloletka, Vasylisa Stepanenko and Lori Hinnant, were awarded for "courageous reporting from the besieged city of Mariupol that bore witness to the slaughter of civilians in russia’s invasion of Ukraine". They became winners in the Public Service category.

In addition, Associated Press photographers also received the Pulitzer Prize in the "Breaking News Photography" category for their shots of Ukrainians under a destroyed bridge in Irpin, the moment a russian tank shelled a high-rise building in Mariupol, a mass grave on the outskirts of Mariupol, killed residents of Bucha and a number of other works from Ukraine.

It is also worth noting that in the International Journalism category, the jury awarded the prize to New York Times employees - also for coverage of russia's invasion of Ukraine. No one was singled out in this category.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian Maloletka was named The Guardian's Photographer of the Year.
