President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke in favor of continuing the Black Sea Grain Initiative after March 18, when the term of the previous agreement comes to an end. Zelensky stated this at a briefing in Kyiv on March 8 after a meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Interfax-Ukraina reports.

"The continuation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative after March 18 is critically necessary for the whole world", - Zelensky said.

Guterres in his turn emphasized the extreme importance of continuing the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

According to Zelensky, "it is also important to work within the framework of our Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative".

"As part of this initiative, we managed to attract more than $200 million and send 140,000 tons of Ukrainian grain to Europe, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia. I am sure that we will be able to significantly strengthen the initiative. This will provide even more guarantees for global food security", - Zelensky stressed.

According to Guterres, the Black Sea Grain Initiative ensured the export of 23 million tons of grain.

"Thanks to this, it was possible to reduce food prices in the world. The FAO food price index fell by almost 20%. Exports of Ukrainian, Russian grain and fertilizers are necessary for global food security", - he said.

Earlier it was reported that on March 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Kyiv.
