Vladimir Gundyaev, who calls himself "Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill", was a Soviet intelligence agent in Switzerland in the 1970s, according to declassified police archives. This is reported by LIGA with reference to Tages-Anzeiger.

Reportedly, in 1971, at the age of 24, Gundyaev became the official representative of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church at the World Council of Churches in Geneva.

The Tages-Anzeiger journalists have examined documents from the archives of the Swiss Federal Police for the period from 1969 to 1989 and claim that Gundyaev’s connection with the KGB is documented.

His mission was to collect information about the members of the World Council of Churches and influence their attitude towards the Soviet Union.

After a stay in Switzerland, he returned to the USSR and continued his career in the Soviet church hierarchy.

Let us recall that earlier, head of the Russian Orthodox Church Gundyaev offered to "wash away sins" in exchange for death in Ukraine.
