Finnish President Sauli Niinistö arrived in Ukraine, who, together with Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the Scandinavian country would contribute to the so-called tank coalition. This was discussed at a press conference in Kyiv on January 24, - European Pravda reports.

"Today, we talked about creating a separate platform to reinforce Ukraine's armored vehicles, including tanks. I am very happy that Finland will take its rightful place there", - President Zelensky said.

Niinistö confirmed that discussions are underway between the allies to create a larger platform for the transfer of tanks to Ukraine.

"To take one tank here and one there is not enough. There must be a powerful unit in Europe. We are discussing the possibility of building such a unit and we are considering different options from Finland (on participation in the tank coalition - ed.)", - the Finnish president said.

He noted that, among other things, the training of Ukrainian soldiers was being considered.

"We are one of the few countries in Europe that has conscription into the ranks of its armed forces. The military must annually train people and receive people, there are appropriate facilities for this, opportunities, great experience of instructors and appropriate premises", - Niinistö said.

He added that in the context of the transfer of tanks to Ukraine, it is necessary to take into account the significant border of Finland with russia and the fact that Finland is not yet a member of NATO.

"The question is that in Finland, we have to be very vigilant and careful, because among those countries that have Leopards... Finland has a unique position. We are the only EU member, but not a member of NATO that has the longest border with Russia after Ukraine. This should always be kept in mind when we think about what our role should be. But it will be constructive, and we will contribute to the creation of this (tank) unit", - Niinistö added.

As reported, the media write that the USA is ready to transfer Abrams tanks to Ukraine in order to unblock supplies from other countries.
