The leadership of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate has refused to comply with the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to rename the organization indicating its affiliation to the Russian Orthodox Church. This was reported on the official website of the legal department of the church.

The clergy called the lack of legal grounds for this step the main argument against.

"The Constitutional Court of Ukraine recognized the law on renaming as constitutional. At the same time, it should be noted that the decision of the Constitutional Court does not oblige the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to change its name, it only concerns the compliance of the law on renaming with the Constitution of Ukraine", - head of the legal department of the UOC-MP Oleksandr Bakhov stated.

Meanwhile, the law obliges the UOC-MP to change its name to the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The absence in the current name of the name of an indication that the UOC is part of the Russian church misleads the laity.

In turn, the ROC does not hide the fact that all parishes and dioceses of the UOC-MP are organizations of the Russian Church.

As previously reported, the UOC-MP is expiring the lease agreement for two monasteries in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
