USA makes breakthrough on fusion energy

The biggest scientific success has been officially announced in the USA: for the first time, a fusion reaction produced more energy than was spent on its implementation. This is reported by Voice of America.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, scientists from the Livermore National Laboratory in California have achieved the success.

This theoretically makes possible fundamental breakthroughs in the field of national defense and clean energy, - U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm stated.

She added that this is one of the outstanding scientific achievements of the 21st century, which will remain in the history books.

White House science adviser Arati Prabhakar called the results of the experiment "an incredible engineering gem".

Adherents of the development of thermonuclear fusion believe that it is able to provide humanity with an infinite amount of energy, having eliminated the need to use fossil fuels and traditional energy resources.

Director of the Livermore Laboratory Kim Budil stated this success could lead to the technology being put into practical use in a few decades, rather than 50 to 60 years, as previously thought.

U.S. President Joe Biden called this success an example of the importance of investing in scientific research, - the message notes.
