Yelenovka tragedy with victims is nothing more than a cynical, planned terrorist action, organized by pro-Russian militants. It is stated by the press center of the ATO headquarters.

The ATO headquarters’ statement noted that militants spread false information about the tragic incident in Yelenovka Volnovakha district, Donetsk region which occurred on April 27th, 2016.

"Based on the preliminary analysis of the situation concerning the tragic events in Yelenovka, we inform as follows. The distance from the first position of the AFU unit to the incident site is 6.6 km. Taking into consideration tactical and technical characteristics of the 82-mm mortar shells, we note that they can not be used at such a distance, because the mortar 2B14 Podnos has maximum range of fire of 3000 meters, while the 2B9 Vasilek - 4200 meters. Thus, conducting aimed fire with this armament is possible only on the territory that is temporarily controlled by illegal armed groups," – highlighted the statement.

"We also note that according to the Minsk agreements heavy guns with a caliber more than 100 mm, including 120 mm mortars and 122-mm guns, are withdrawn at the determined distance. Movement of such weapons by the Ukrainian units in the direction of demarcation line didn’t take place that is confirmed by representatives of the OSCE SMM," - indicates the ATO headquarters.

"It is important to note that the Russian side of the JCCC observers did not record a single case of the use of artillery by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the direction of Yelenovka at the night of April 26th-27th, 2016," - note the ATO headquarters.

"Based on the above, the tragic event in Yelenovka is a cynical, planned terrorist action, organized by the Russian occupation troops, when the enemy is ready to fire at civilians on the territories controlled by militants in order to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine," - emphasized the headquarters.

"We express our condolences to the families and friends of those killed in this terrible tragedy," - said the statement.
