No more than 15% of prisoners, whom PMC Wagnerrecruited in russian prisons and colonies, survived in the war with Ukraine. One of the prisoners told this in his letter to the Gulagu.net project.

"We are recruited into assault platoons. We will be trained for 3 weeks in a PMC camp in the mode of 4 hours of sleep and 20 hours of training. Then 2 weeks on the second front line. And then to the front. At the front, convicts are formed into platoons of 10-15 people. Instructors and experienced PMC fighters are walking side by side, like a barrage detachment", - he wrote.

"A platoon of convicts open combat points, experienced fighters work against the enemy. They avoid losses among experienced mercenaries", - he described the main function of the "penal battalion".

"Guys, don’t be stupid, this is a convict’s grave, they don’t make volunteers, but fertilizers from us... It’s unrealistic to teach tactics and combat skills to convicts in three weeks. You are just cannon fodder. No more than 10-15% of them survive, almost all are three hundredth…", - the author of the letter addresses other prisoners.

As previously reported, owner of PMC Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin, actually admitted that he was actively recruiting prisoners from russian colonies for the war against Ukraine. Preference is given to those convicted of murder, looting and robbery.
