Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has stated that Ukraine would join the EU roaming zone. She announced this in her annual State of the Union address to the European Parliament, - European Pravda reports.

"We will bring Ukraine into our European roaming free zone. It's time to do it", - she said.

After the EU-Ukraine Association Council following the September 5 meeting, the EU stressed its commitment to explore the possibilities of a long-term agreement on the abolition of roaming charges between the EU and Ukraine.

On July 24, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Ukraine plans to join the EU roaming space soon.

In April, mobile operators from the EU and Ukraine signed a joint statement confirming their intention to cooperate in order to provide affordable or even free roaming between the EU and Ukraine. EC representative Katarína Mathernová noted that this could be one of the first bases for a future roaming agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

As previously reported, the EU has extended free roaming for Ukrainian refugees.
