Military registration for women postponed for a year - Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of Defense has delayed the enrollment of women in the military until October 1, 2023. The relevantg decree was signed by head of the department Oleksii Reznikov. This was announced in Telegram on September 7 by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar.

Maliar stressed that there were no bans on women traveling abroad from October 1.

"Along with that, realizing that the legislative process is lengthy, the Ministry of Defense, within the limits of its powers, prepared an order that once again postponed the deadlines for taking women of relevant professions/specialties for military registration for another year - until October 1, 2023. The relevant order was signed yesterday, on September 6, by Minister of Defense Oleksii Reznikov", - Maliar wrote.

At the same time, she recalled that the rule on the mandatory registration of women of relevant professions/specialties for military registration is regulated precisely by law.

"This order does not change the norms of the current legislation, but it will allow the committee, and then the parliament as a whole, to finalize and amend the legislation in order to resolve this issue", - Maliar explained.

According to her, for this reason, the Ministry of Defense, within the limits of its authority, can only postpone the deadlines.

"Therefore, they have been postponed for another year - until October 01, 2023, and during this time, parliamentarians will be able to establish at the legislative level that the military registration of women in the relevant professions/specialties is solely voluntary", - Maliar noted.

According to her, the work in the Verkhovna Rada committee is actively continuing, but after the adoption of relevant changes to the legislation regarding the voluntary registration of women for military registration, there will no longer be a need to postpone the deadlines again and again by orders of the Ministry of Defense.

"Now the parliament is finalizing the draft law "On Amending Article 1 of the Law of Ukraine "On Military Duty and Military Service " at the level of the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada", - Maliar stressed.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Defense announced the voluntariness of military registration of women who are ready to serve in the AFU.
