First and last President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev died at the age of 91. This was reported on August 30 by the russian media.

Information about the death of the last head of the Soviet Union was confirmed at the Central Clinical Hospital.

"Mikhail Gorbachev died this evening after a serious and long illness", - representatives of the Central Clinical Hospital told reporters.

Let us recall that in 1990, Gorbachev abolished the post of general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, after which from 1990 to 1991, he was the first and only president of the USSR. For this he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

Earlier in June 2022, it became known that ex-Secretary General of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev had a kidney failure.
