The IAEA mission went to Ukraine to visit the Zaporizhzhia NPP. CEO of the institution Rafael Mariano Grossi announced this on his Twitter.

"This day has come. A mission of support and assistance is already on its way to Zaporizhzhia. We must ensure the safety of the largest nuclear facility in Ukraine and Europe. I am proud to lead this mission, which will arrive on site during the current week", - Grossi wrote.

Since March 4, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been under the control of the russian military. Since then, the invaders have placed military equipment and ammunition there. Since August 5, the russians have been shelling the ZNPP territory on a regular basis. Due to the enemy rocket attacks, three radiation monitoring sensors around the Zaporizhzhia NPP spent fuel storage facility were damaged. The EU and 42 countries called on russia to immediately withdraw its troops from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the entire territory of Ukraine. On the basis of Energoatom, a crisis headquarters was created, which included representatives of various ministries, structures and departments that can be involved in the event of an emergency related to the ZNPP.
