The British Ministry of Defense confirmed the transfer of M270 MLRS to Ukraine. This is reported by CNN with reference to the statement of Minister of Defense of Great Britain Ben Wallace, - the Militarnyi website writes.

Britain will send M270 launchers able to strike targets up to 80 kilometers (49.7 miles) away, offering "a significant boost in capability for the Ukrainian forces" to defend their county.

In its statement, the Ministry mentioned that the move has been coordinated closely with the U.S. decision to provide Ukraine with its HIMARS artillery rocket systems.

"The UK stands with Ukraine and has taken a leading role in supplying its heroic troops with the vital weapons they need to defend their country", - Wallace said.

The Minister stressed that as russia’s hostilities tactics change, so must the support for Ukraine.

"These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will enable our Ukrainian friends to better protect themselves against russia’s brutal use of long-range artillery, which putin’s forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities", - the minister specified.

He added that the Ukrainian troops would be trained on how to use the launchers in the UK, so the effectiveness of the launchers can be maximized.

Previously it was reported that the United Kingdom is asking the USA to sign a plan to send advanced multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine. The USA must formally approve the move through export regulations, although the Biden administration will almost certainly give the green light.

It is noted that the M270 is equipped with a launch system mounted on a crawler chassis borrowed from Bradley’s infantry fighting vehicle. The launcher can fire a variety of 227-mm missiles, including high-precision and short-range ballistic missiles of the ATACMS army tactical missile system.

The M270 launcher can be loaded with two such modules simultaneously, which allows it to launch up to 12 missiles or two ATACMS missiles.
