U.S. approves sending long-range MLRS to Ukraine - NYT

The administration of U.S. President Joseph Biden has approved the shipment of long-range multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Ukraine. The New York Times writes about it.

According to a source in the U.S. presidential administration, the transfer of the MLRS is likely to be announced next week.

The package will reportedly include mobile rocket launchers that can fire much farther than the launchers currently used by Ukraine.

Although officials have not provided details on exactly what types of missiles the USA will be providing, the Pentagon most commonly uses the M31 GMLRS (Gueded Multiple Launch Rocket System) – a satellite-guided precision weapon.

The missiles reach over 40 miles (65 km), far beyond the range of any artillery currently used by Ukraine.

Let us recall that the Ukrainian authorities have long been asking to send MLRS multiple launch rocket systems to the AFU. On May 27, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak once again urged not to delay the transfer of the MLRS to Ukraine.

As previously reported, the U.S. administration is studying the issue of transferring universal MLRS launchers to the AFU. According to experts, their appearance in service of the Ukrainian army can change the course of the war.
