MFA of Britain: Russian aggression must be met only with force

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss considers it dangerous to try to "appease" the russian leader. This was said in a press release from the MFA on the eve of Truss's trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 26, - the BBC reports.

"Russian aggression cannot be appeased. It must be met with force. We should be adamant in ensuring the victory of Ukraine with military assistance and sanctions. Now we can no longer take our foot off the gas pedal", - Liz Truss stated.

In her speech today, she is going to demand an increase in arms supplies to Ukraine and tougher sanctions against russia.

The report notes that, speaking of "appeasement of the aggressor", Truss makes an explicit reference to the policy that the British government led by Neville Chamberlain in the late 30s of the twentieth century led towards Nazi Germany, which consisted of concessions, compromises and indulgence of its aggressive actions in the hope of limiting their scope. Such a policy led to the final degradation of the Versailles system, the League of Nations and the collective security system, a radical change in the balance of power in Europe, a weakening of the geopolitical positions of Great Britain and France and the strengthening of Germany.

According to Truss, there should be no backsliding on the goal of guaranteeing russia's defeat in its war against Ukraine.

"We must not allow a protracted and increasingly painful conflict to develop in Ukraine", - Truss believes.

The West, she said, should draw conclusions from recent history, when putin, having obtained various concessions from the West, attacked Georgia, Crimea and Donbas.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas made a similar remark earlier on Wednesday, warning her colleagues against showing any weakness to putin.
