The neutral status of Ukraine should be protected by the Treaty on Security Guarantees. This was stated by adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podoliak at a briefing after the Ukrainian-Russian talks in Istanbul, - Interfax-Ukraine reports.

At the same time, this Treaty must be approved by the people of Ukraine in a referendum, - he stressed.

"The implementation of the decision of the agreement on security guarantees will proceed according to the following scheme: at first, it will be a referendum, at which all citizens of Ukraine will express their position on this agreement and on how it should work. After that, ratification by the parliaments of the guarantor countries and the parliament of Ukraine will take place. This is key. That is, we should get the support of society, so that this agreement is really consolidating for us", - Podoliak said.
