In the first 11 days of Russian aggression in Ukraine alone, more than 450 Kharkiv residents were killed or wounded as a result of airstrikes and shelling of settlements. This was stated by director of the Human Rights Watch human rights organization for Europe and Central Asia Hugh Williamson, - BBC reports.

"The Russian armed forces showed a disregard for the lives of civilians in Kharkiv by repeatedly attacking settlements", - Williamson said.

The attacks of the Russian occupiers hit apartment buildings, schools, churches and shops, leaving people without food and medicine.

The shelling damaged the city infrastructure, depriving residents of vital services such as electricity, heat and water.

"The Russian military may feel they have the right to ignore the laws of war in attacking Kharkiv, but those responsible will be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes", - Hugh Williamson stated.
