Judge postpones announcement of decision in case of Poroshenko to January 19

The Pechersk Court of Kyiv, which elects pre-trial restrictions for the fifth president Petro Poroshenko, suspected of treason and assistance to terrorist organizations due to involvement, according to investigators, in the purchase of coal from CADO in 2014-2015, has postponed the meeting to January 19. This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda.

It is noted that presiding judge Oleksiy Sokolov, who was chosing the pre-trial restrictions for Poroshenko, stayed in the deliberations room for 5 hours.

After that, he returned to the courtroom and stated that he would announce the operative part of the decision on January 19 at 14.00.

The prosecution petitioned for a measure of restraint in the form of arrest with the alternative of posting a bail of 1 billion hryvnias. Prosecutors noted that Poroshenko could put pressure on witnesses, obstruct the investigation and hold back evidence.

Poroshenko himself told in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda that any measure of restraint for him would be a shame for Ukraine: "This is an obstacle to my political activities both within the country and abroad".

The fifth president of Ukraine is suspected of having facilitated the activities of the "LNR" and "DNR" terrorist organizations by acting on prior agreement with a group of people, including representatives of the top leadership of the Russian Federation. The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years with or without confiscation of property.
