Sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, which the USA may impose in the event of aggression against Ukraine, will mean a break of diplomatic relations. This statement was made by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from journalists.

"The imposition of sanctions against the head of state, or against the head of Russia is an outrageous measure that is comparable to breaking off relations", - he said.

Answering the question of what steps the leadership of the Russian Federation would take in response, Peskov evasively stated that "Russia is always ready and will always the best in the interests of our country".

As previously reported, a new bill in the U.S. Senate on a package of sanctions in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine includes measures against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
