The Pechersk District Court has agreed to detain ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. This was reported by Ukrainian News with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.

The decision was made this morning as part of the case under investigation by the SBI on suspicion of high treason.

The court agreed to the detention of Poroshenko in order to bring him to court for consideration of the petition for applying measure of restraint in the form of detention.

As previously reported, the State Bureau of Investigation summoned former President Petro Poroshenko on December 23 to conduct legal proceedings. They could not hand over the suspicion to him personally. Poroshenko was abroad at that time.

Petro Poroshenko's lawyer, Ilia Novikov, stated that his client would definitely return to Ukraine, but this will not be done on the dates on which the prosecutor's office and the State Bureau of Investigation want it.

The former President did not appear when summoned, but his lawyers came, who were not allowed to see the SBI investigator.
