EU ambassadors extend sanctions against Russia for annexation of Crimea and aggression in Donbas

The ambassadors of the European Union countries have approved the continuation of personal sanctions imposed against Russia for aggression against Ukraine. Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak wrote this on Twitter, - European Pravda reports.

"The EU ambassadors gave the green light to continue for another six months the ban on the issuance of visas and freezing assets in relation to 177 people and 44 legal entities, who are considered involved in an encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The sanctions are 7 years old, and more names have been added since 2014", - Jozwiak wrote.

He indicated 44 legal entities in the post, but noted in the comments that he was mistaken, and there are actually 48 of them, as it was before.

The decision still needs to be formally approved by the EU Council with subsequent publication in the Official Journal, after which it will enter into force.

The EU sanctions against persons and entities responsible for undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine were introduced in March 2014 and have been extended every six months since then.

The last time they were extended until September 15, 2021.
