At the meeting between presidents of the USA and Ukraine, Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky, the topic of the "lack of alternatives to the Minsk agreements" was not raised. Member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group, President of the CRDSP Serhiy Harmash writes this on his Facebook.
"There is no mantra about the lack of alternatives to the Minsk agreements, but the thesis about the settlement of the conflict on the basis of international law and the UN Charter, with which the Minsk agreements, to put it mildly, are not always consistent, appeared" - he notes, analyzing the joint statement of the leaders of Ukraine and the USA on strategic partnership.
Orientation towards international law and the UN Charter coincides with Ukraine's approach to the interpretation of Minsk.
According to S.Harmash, this position "is a good signal to our Norman partners and to Putin personally about forcing Ukraine to take actions that contradict its sovereignty and international norms, such as holding election in a territory that is not controlled by the state".
Another positive of the Biden-Zelensky meeting, the representative of Ukraine in the TCG writes, is that the joint statement "once again clearly outlines the role of Russia in the conflict in eastern Ukraine and, most importantly, its ceasefire COMMITMENTS".
"If there are commitments, there should be responsibility for their failure. That is, the Kremlin will not see a softening of the sanctions policy, on the contrary, as the phrase goes, "be continued", - Serhiy Harmash is sure.
"The USA understands that Russia is imitating efforts to resolve the conflict. Accordingly, Moscow will not be able to hold Ukraine responsible for the inefficiency or disruption of the Minsk process", - he summarizes.
