Arrears to pensioners from the occupied territories at the beginning of 2021 reach $3.1 billion. This is reported by the press service of the Accounting Chamber.

"According to the calculations of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, arrears to pensioners from the occupied territories at the beginning of 2021 amounted to $3.1 billion, of which $411 million can actually be claimed by persons registered in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities", - the report says.

This debt arose due to the fact that the government was not approving the procedure for social payments to citizens from among internally displaced persons during three years. Moreover, there is no unified approach to the accounting by insurance funds of the amounts of unpaid social benefits over the past period. Such debts are repaid only by court decisions and increase the funds' expenses on legal costs. Such expenses for the PFU alone amounted to $41.1 million in 2020.
