Court extends house arrest to Medvedchuk suspected of high treason

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has extended house arrest for MP Viktor Medvedchuk. He is suspected of high treason. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine.

Medvedchuk was kept under house arrest until September 7. He is prohibited from leaving his place of residence, except for the need for medical assistance.

The people's deputy is suspected of attempted plundering of natural resources (according to the investigation, the defendants in the case got into cahoots with an official of the Russian government in 2015 to extract minerals on the Black Sea shelf); transferring of information containing state secret to the Russian special services (Medvedchuk transferred information about a secret unit of the Ukrainian army in 2020); anti-Ukrainian activity (Medvedchuk is suspected of intending to create an infrastructure of influence through the Ukrainians working in the Russian Federation).

Earlier, on May 13, the court seleected a measure of restraint for Viktor Medvedchuk a in the form of a round-the-clock arrest. The next day, the politician was put on an electronic bracelet. When Medvedchuk was elected a preventive measure, the prosecution asked the court to send the parliamentarian to a pre-trial detention center until July 10 with a bail of 300 million hryvnias. However, he was placed under house arrest. The prosecutor's office also noted that in case of denouncing testimony, Medvedchuk would face up to 15 years in prison.
