National Police closes criminal case on separatism against ex-member of Party of Regions Levchenko - SBU

The criminal case against former People's Deputy from the Party of Regions Nikolai Levchenko was closed by the National Police. This was stated in the press service of the SBU, - LIGA.net reports.

The case against Levchenko was opened by the SBU in 2014 under articles on encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and violation of the equality of citizens. The former people's deputy was informed of the suspicion in 2015, the Kyiv Court of Appeal agreed to his detention.

Subsequently, the Prosecutor General's Office transferred the Levchenko case to the National Police, the procedural controller of the case made a decision to close it in April 2020 and in February 2021, the decision to close the case was made by the investigators of the National Police, - the SBU reported. After that, Nikolai Levchenko was removed from the wanted list.

"The Security Service of Ukraine maintains the position that persons who contributed to the aggressor country by their actions should be punished within the law. The SBU continues to work in this direction", - was stated in the department.

As previously reported, the former secretary of the Donetsk City Council and the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions, known for his anti-Ukrainian position, returned to Ukraine. Earlier, in 2014, he brought "people's governor" Pavel Gubarev to the session of the Donetsk city council, who, thanks to Levchenko, got the rostrum from which he announced the beginning of separatist riot in the Donetsk oblast, which served as an umbrella for the Russian occupation of the Donbas.
