Ukrainian journalist Georgiy Gongadze, killed in 2000, will be buried in Kiev today. Interfax-Ukraine informs about that.

It is reported that the hearse with the coffin, covered with flags of Ukraine and Georgia, left the morgue and was accompanied by two police cars, vans and several other cars.

The motorcade will proceed along the central streets of Kiev to the Church of St. Nicholai Naberezhnoy.

On the eve the lawyer of the journalist's widow Myroslava Valentina Telichenko reported that on March 22 Georgiy Gongadze would be buried on the territory of the church of Nicholai Naberezhnoy. The funeral and farewell would begin at about 12:00.

According to V.Telichenko, during the funeral ceremony "any speeches of politicians or other secular figures" are not provided and photos and video are banned in the church where the funeral service will be held."

"The family asks journalists not to ask for comments, photographers and videographers to keep the distance," - said the lawyer.

Church of St. Nicholai Naberezhnoy is an Orthodox stone church, belonging to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. It was erected in Kiev Podol in 1772 by architect I. Grigorovich-Barsky instead of the old wooden church. It is located near the Dnieper River in 12 Grigoriya Skovorody Street.

As previously reported, journalist Gongadze disappeared in Kiev on September 16th, 2000. In 2009 the remains of the skull were found in Kiev region that, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office, could belong to Gongadze. However, the body wasn’t buried, as the journalist’s mother Lesya Gongadze refused to admit that the found remains belonged to her son. On November 30th, 2013 L.Gongadze died at the age of 69.
