Council of Europe not authorized to deal with security issues in Donbas - SG

In accordance with its statutory powers, the Council of Europe is unable to resolve security issues in eastern Ukraine. This was stated by Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić, answering the questions of the PACE delegates on April 20, - Ukrinform reports.

"I can say again that we are not the UN or the OSCE. We cannot be involved in security issues. But we are concerned with a human rights issue in this region of Ukraine on the border with Russia. This is where we can react according to the mandate of the Council Europe", - the secretary general explained.

As previously reported, the spring session of the PACE is being held in Strasbourg on April 19-22.
