The first batch of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine arrived in Ukraine today, April 16, as part of the global COVAX mechanism, - RBC-Ukraine reports.

The charter flight arrived at the Zhuliany Airport in Kyiv and delivered the first 117 thousand doses of vaccines from the Pfizer and BioNTech companies to Ukraine. These are not all the doses of the Pfizer vaccine that Ukraine can receive through the COVAX mechanism. About 1.7 million doses of South Korean-made Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are to be brought to the country by the end of May

As chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko noted at the briefing, 29.5 thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine would be sent to regional centers tomorrow, April 17. Already on April 18, the first injections with this vaccine will be given in nursing homes for the elderly.

"Tomorrow, on April 17, 29 500 doses will be distributed to the warehouses of all regional centers of the country. The first vaccinations will already begin on April 18", - Liashko stated.

He noted that the first vaccinations would be given in homes for the elderly, as the Pfizer vaccines were planned for them as part of the first stage of immunization.

"The Pfizer vaccine that has arrived will be used by fast-moving ambulance crews… The vaccine will be taken from the regional warehouse, travel to the vaccination site, and the elderly will be vaccinated", - the chief sanitary inspector noted.
