The "L/DNR" occupiers are holding 280 of our citizens in illegal detention in the occupied territories of eastern Ukraine. Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova reported this on her Facebook.

According to her, there are 44 servicemen among the prisoners. Also, 258 Ukrainian citizens are considered gone missing, - Denisova told during an online meeting with the U.S. Undersecretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Kara McDonald.

A number of topical issues, including the observance of the rights of citizens in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk oblast and the situation with observance of human rights under conditions of the pandemic, were discussed during the conversation.

Denisova also expressed concern about the buildup of military power by the Russian Federation and prolonged aggression along the borders of Ukraine, which leads to a violation of the right to life and security of the region's residents.

In addition, the Ombudsman recalled that there are two working checkpoints out of seven in the east of Ukraine - Stanytsia Luhanska and Novotroitske. Ukrainians from the occupied territories cannot receive pensions and social benefits due to the checkpoints blocking.

As reported by OstroV, Lyudmyla Denisova earlier reported that 267 of our compatriots were illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas.
