Occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts are on the verge of anthropogenic and environmental disaster. Ukraine turned to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with a request to conduct monitoring there, but Russia, for its part, refuses to even discuss this situation. Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksii Reznikov told this in an interview with the Dom TV channel.

According to him, both the IAEA and the OSCE are aware of this threat.

"The OSCE Chairman Rama replied in writing to my appeal that "we see existential threat of a man-made disaster associated with radiation pollution". Let me remind you that there is the Young Communard mine, where there was a nuclear explosion in the 1970s. They do not care about it, do not pump out water and, according to our information, the radioactive water reached the layer of drinking water", - Reznikov reported.

The Vice Prime Minister added that water pollution by radiation threatens not only CADLO, but also Russia. In addition, polluted water can get into the Black Sea, "and this is already a risk for the entire European community".

"Therefore, we demand that the IAEA's monitoring mission be allowed there, but the Russians, who have substantial control in the occupied territories, are still hindering this. They refuse to discuss this even in the TCG", - Reznikov said.

As reported by OstroV, local bloggers in the occupied territory of Donetsk oblast showed how the surroundings of the flooded Yunkom mine, where nuclear tests were carried out in 1979, look like.
