Russia's Gazprom has warned that the Nord Stream 2 project could be delayed or suspended due to political leverage. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the Eurobonds prospectus, - Kommersant writes.

It was earlier reported that Gazprom intended to complete the construction of the pipeline "as soon as it becomes reasonably possible". "In the implementation of our major international projects, such as the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, we have faced and may continue to face risks associated with a change in the political situation in various regions associated with such projects. Such changes may lead to the suspension or termination of the project in exceptional circumstances, including due to political leverage", - the statement said.

Earlier, an official representative of the Ministry of Economy and Energy of the Federal Republic of Germany announced that the USA would impose sanctions on a Russian vessel participating in the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline on January 19. Prior to this, the German Handelsblatt newspaper reported with reference to the sources that Washington intended to impose sanctions against the Russian pipe layer Fortuna and its owner OOO KVT-Rus.

It is reported that after European vessels refused to participate in the project under the threat of the U.S. sanctions, two Russian pipe layers, Akademik Cherskiy and Fortuna, were sent to complete the construction of Nord Stream 2. Both vessels received work permits. The next work was to begin on January 15, 2021, but the Nord Stream 2 operator postponed the construction of the pipe.
