General Prosecutor 's Office served with charges the former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yezhel

Chief Military Prosecutor's Office of the General Prosecutor's Office made a statement on serving charges to ex-Minister of Defence of Ukraine Mikhail Yezhel for improper performance of duties during the negotiation of the list of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine subjected to alienation in 2011. This was reported on the official website of the Prosecutor General on Friday.

According to the report, the ex-Minister’s actions are classified under Part 2 of Art.367 of the Criminal Code (negligence, causing grave consequences).

"Later that decision enabled the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to carry out the illegal alienation of the two heavy strategic bombers Tu-95MS to business entities that has caused serious consequences in the form of material damage to the state in the amount of 24 million UAH", - said the Prosecutor's Office.

During pre-trial investigation the location of aircrafts and their components was found, they are arrested and therefore their further implementation is restrained in the Russian Federation.

Pre-trial investigation of the proceeding is going on.

M. Yezhel headed the defense establishment in Ukraine from March 11, 2010 to February 8, 2012 when ex-President Viktor Yanukovych was before the chief inspector of the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense. Prior to dismissal from military service in the reserve due to health reasons in 2003, he was the commander of the Navy AFU for two years and before that the Deputy Minister of Defense – Commander of the Navy AFU for almost five years.
