The Verkhovna Rada has dismissed Yakiv Smolii from the post of chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine, - correspondent of OstroV reports.

286 deputies voted supported the decision.

During his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, Yakiv Smolii spoke about cases of political pressure on the National Bank, which led to the resignation.

"Pressure via the courts, paid rallies along the Instytutska Street and near the houses of board members, information attacks based on manipulations and lies, unjustified political assessments of the NBU policy and my direct activity as the head of the institution, use of the NBU Council to create a corporate conflict within the institution. All these are elements of one chain", - Yakiv Smolii explained.

He also added that during the meetings, which were attended by deputies, the president and the government representatives, there were calls to the NBU "to pour money on the economy, to set one or another course for a certain category of the economy sector".

As previously reported, head of the National Bank Yakiv Smolii wrote and filed a letter of resignation on July 1 to the name of President Volodymyr Zelensky because of "systematic political pressure".

Smolii became head of the NBU on March 15, 2018, when the Verkhovna Rada supported the dismissal of Valeria Gontareva from the post of head of the National Bank and appointed him to this post.
