Two residents of the Lyman district have received five years in prison for organizing the illegal referendum in 2014, - the press service of the prosecutor's office in the Donetsk oblast reports.

The court found that holding the positions of chairman and deputy chairman of the precinct electoral commission, a woman and a man organized an illegal referendum in the premises of one of the cafes in the village of Shchurove on May 11, 2014 to determine the independence of the so-called "DNR".

In February of this year, the Krasnolyman city court found them guilty of infringing on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (part 2 of article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced to 5 years in prison with a trial period of 2 years.

Considering the sentence too lenient, the prosecutor's office filed an appeal, which the Donetsk Court of Appeal upheld and sentenced the defendants to 5 years in prison.

According to part 1,2 of article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine 14 people, of which 2 deputies, were prosecuted during May. 6 people were sentenced for participation in the organization and conduct of the illegal "DNR" referendum, indictments against 5 people were sent to court and three more persons were notified of the suspicion.
