One of the four internally displaced persons is not going to go back home to live permanently in the next few years. The study conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology proves this fact.

"54% of the respondents consider their situation as temporary and would like to return home, 26% intend to return home during this period, and the rest have not decided yet," - commented on the results of a study the researcher of the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) Marina Shpiker.

According to her, forced migrants enumerate certain conditions under which they are ready to return.

"Half of the respondents are waiting for the end of hostilities, about the same number of people wants Donbass to be again controlled by the Ukrainian authorities and about a third said that they would return if there were conditions for a normal life", - said Shpiker.

The study was conducted in Slavyansk, Severodonetsk, Berdyansk, Nikopol, Chuguyev and Dergachi in October 2015. Pollsters conducted 425 semi-structured interviews with forced migrants in Slavyansk, Severodonetsk, Berdyansk, Nikopol, Chuguyev and Dergachi and 200 telephone interviews in the cities with a population of 165 thousand in Donetsk, Luhansk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions. One of the components of the study was also 10 in-depth interviews and focus groups with activists, local government officials, active representatives of internally displaced people.
