Putin makes it clear that decisions of international courts in Russia can be ignored in case of referring to Constitution

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the requirements of international law and treaties, as well as decisions of international bodies, can act on the territory of Russia only to the extent that they do not contradict the country's Constitution.

This was reported by Russian media with reference to the appeal of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly.

As reported, Putin see no need for a new Constitution, but he suggested that a number of amendments to the state's basic law be brought up for discussion if they are "justified and important for Russia's development".

"International treaties operate on the territory of Russia only in that part that does not contradict the provisions of the Russian Constitution and does not limit the rights of Russians", - Putin stated.
