About half of Ukrainians consider the conflict in the Donbass to be Russian aggression using local militants. This was reported by director of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation Iryna Bekeshkina at a press conference in Kyiv today, presenting the results of a sociological study, - correspondent of OstroV reports.

"The majority of Ukrainians (45%) define the conflict in the Donbas as Russian aggression against Ukraine using local militants. But a certain part in the east and south (22%) still considers this conflict as an internal civilian one. This interpretation is most common among supporters of Opposition Platform - For Life", - she reported.

According to Bekeshkina, most Ukrainians (in all regions) negatively assess the Russian invasion of the Donbass.

"30% of Ukrainians believe that the Russian invasion of Donbass was aimed at conquering the Ukrainian state, another 18% believe that the Russian invasion of Donbass was aimed at annexing the south-eastern oblasts, and only 9% believe that the purpose of the invasion was to protect the Russian-speaking citizens (this position is more pronounced in the east - 22%, but still not the majority)", - she said.

A nationwide study of public opinion of the population of Ukraine was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in conjunction with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from November 9 to 18, 2019.

The survey was conducted in 110 settlements in all oblasts of Ukraine, except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and oblasts. 2041 forms were collected as a result of the field stage. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.
