Amnesty in Donbass is possible only after legitimate elections - MFA

The MFA calls on people's deputies to introduce the issue of amnesty for discussion. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasyl Bondar in the Verkhovna Rada today during an hour of questions to the government, - correspondent of OstroV reports.

"Regarding the amnesty, we should adhere to the following position: today, Ukraine has already adopted all the legislative acts necessary for the implementation of amnesty within the legal framework in the context of implementation of the Minsk agreements. In accordance with the law on amnesty, full or partial relief from punishment… can only be considered after the election of legitimate authorities in the occupied territories, that is, after the restoration of sovereignty of Ukraine. The decision to apply amnesty is made by the court", - he reported.

According to him, war crimes and persons involved in the destruction of the Malaysian Boeing of MH17 flight do not fall under the amnesty.

"I would like to recall that this is a matter for discussion now. We should bring up this issue for discussion, since it has social meaning", - Vasyl Bondar added.
