Ukraine will have to give "special status" to the occupied Donbass. This was said by head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs and people's deputy from Servant of the People Bohdan Yaremenko in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

"Most likely, there is no other way out. But the question is what kind of "special status". We would see it on the basis of decentralization processes that take place throughout Ukraine", - he answered the question of whether it would be necessary to give "special status" to CADLO with all its components.

At the same time, Yaremenko emphasized that President Volodymyr Zelensky insisted on the adoption of new law on the "special status of Donbass."

"You have to understand: when people say that you cannot make any compromises with the enemy, I would like to remind you that not our tanks are near Tambov. Russian tanks are in the Donbass. And in the Crimea. In such circumstances, Russia believes that it has the right to dictate some conditions to us", - the MP noted.

At the same time, according to him, the internal discussions in the Servant of the People party comes down to "we are ready to talk about a "special status" within the framework of decentralization, increasing the powers of local communities, not regions, oblasts or something incomprehensible, like CADLO".

"But all negotiations are ahead. In diplomacy, you get not what you deserve, but what you could agree on", - Bohdan Yaremenko concluded.

This statement of the people's deputy is at variance with the election promises of presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky, whose course the Servant of the People party promised to embody. Zelensky was totally against the special status of Donbass.

"Should Donbass have a special status?" – the journalist asked. "I believe no. I believe that this is generally our big story, and we will have to get out of this criminal situation for a long time. Here, perhaps, the information war will help us", – Zelensky stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine in April 2019.

As previously reported, on October 1, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine agreed on the text of the "Steinmeier formula" in Minsk. Now, according to him, the "Steinmeier formula" should be implemented in the new law on the special status of Donbass.

Zelensky recalled that the existing law on the special status of Donbass is valid until the end of 2019, it will be replaced by another law that will be developed by the Verkhovna Rada. "Not a single red line will be crossed in this new law, therefore, there will never be any surrender".
