Residents of Crimea and Sevastopol were very passive in the spring of 2014 and were not ready to really fight for a "reunion" with Russia. This opinion was expressed by Russian saboteur Igor Girkin (Strelkov) in an interview with Moskovskij Komsomolets.

"Donbass was much more active than Crimea. Including, perhaps, even Sevastopol. I was there and I know quite well how the self-organization of Russians in the Crimea took place. A significant part of the population did not care a jot about the establishment of power - Russian or Ukrainian", - he stated.

"What an interesting confession", - the Russian journalist, who use the propaganda cliches about the fateful choice of Crimeans, was surprised.

"Sorry, but I always tell the truth. Sometimes, of course, it becomes necessary to be engaged in propaganda, but now I am not a military-political leader, I do not need propaganda", - Girkin answered.

"Yes, the majority of the Crimean population was loyal to the "reunification" with Russia. But if there had not been a "reunification", they would not have actively entered the barricades", - he assured.

As previously reported, the "annexation" of Crimea to Russia was the result of occupation of the peninsula by Russian troops.
