The Rada calls on the international community to condemn the aggression of Russia against Ukraine and increase pressure
The Verkhovna Rada calls upon the international community to condemn the violent actions of Russia in Ukraine and increase the pressure on it. This is stated in the resolution adopted by the parliament on the address of the Verkhovna Rada to the parliaments parliamentary assemblies of international organizations to condemn the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation, against Ukraine (№4042), - reports UNIAN.
The document was supported by 236 deputies out of 303 registered in the session hall.
Ukrainian Parliament calls on the international community to condemn the violent actions of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine and contribute to strengthening the political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian occupation authorities in order to restore the jurisdiction of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders in the address.
The Verkhovna Rada also called on the international community to continue to exert pressure on the Russian Federation as a country grossly violates the UN Charter, the Memorandum on Security Assurances in connection with Ukraine's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as of December 5th, 1994 (Budapest Memorandum), the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe as of August 1st,1975, the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism as of 1999 to the final return of the state in the international legal field.
At the same time, the VR welcomes adopted the resolution, adopted on February 4th, 2016 by the European Parliament, which strongly condemns the illegal annexation of the Russian Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and points out to unprecedented critical situation of human rights on the peninsula, the system attacks of the Russian occupying power on the fundamental rights and the freedom of all those who disagree with its policies, in the first place, the Crimean Tatars and ethnic Ukrainians, there is suppression of any manifestations of democratic freedoms in the Crimea, including the cessation of operation of free media.
In addition, Ukraine's parliament supported the European Parliament's position on the need to start the international negotiating mechanism to restore Ukrainian sovereignty by de-occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol in the Geneva Plus format with direct involvement of the EU institutions.
