The Russian language could be used in the status of regional in the Donbass, if this territory is fully controlled by Ukraine. This was stated by head of the President's Office Andriy Bohdan in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

Bohdan supports the idea of using Russian as regional language in the Donbass.

"Regional languages – probably. My own opinion: I would allow Donetsk and Luhansk Ukrainian as the state and Russian – as regional language, providing that after that, they are the territory of Ukraine", - he said.

At the same time, the clarifying question about the possibility of making Russian the second state language, Bohdan replied in the negative.

"No. I am from Lviv, I have "Bandera supporters" there, I am for the Ukrainian language and I am for Ukraine. But we have a problem and it needs to be solved. We speak endlessly, but we solve nothing, and we must decide", - he said.

In turn, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oeksandr Danylyuk expressed the opinion in an interview with Lb.ua that it is better to speak with the residents of Donbass in Russian in order to gain their trust. "If we want the uncontrolled territory of Donbass to receive information in a comfortable way, Russian must still prevail there. Because they perceive it, they are used to it. To gain the trust of the population of Donbass, you need to speak the language that they will hear. There must be high-quality content that would compete with what Russia is now embarking upon. Such that people want to watch it",- Danylyuk beliefs.

As previously reported, ex-president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a law on the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language on May 15. And on May 16, the law was published in the official media.
