Decree on early termination of Verkhovna Rada's powers and early election comes into force

The decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the early termination of powers of the Verkhovna Rada and appointment of early election for July 21, 2019 came into force, - 112.ua reports.

Decree No.303/2019 of May 21 was published in the Uryadovy Kuryer official government media on Thursday, May 23.

"Guided by the 2nd part of article No.77, the 6th and the 7th parts of article 83, the 1st clause of part 2 of article 90 of the Constitution of Ukraine and in accordance with clauses 7 and 8 of part 1 of article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine, I decree: 1. to cease the mandate of the Verkhovna Rada of the 8th convocation. 2. to appoint early election to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on July 21, 2019", - the document said.

Zelensky also entrusted the Cabinet of Ministers to provide funding of early parliamentary election.

Scheduled election to Ukraine's Parliament was supposed to be held in autumn, 2019.

On May 22, Parubiy stated in the Verkhovna Rada that Zelensky's decree does not comply with the Constitution.

Also yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada was not able even to include changes in the electoral system proposed by Volodymyr Zelensky for the election of people's deputies in agenda.
