60% of people crossing checkpoints on the contact line in Donbass consider themselves to be citizens of Ukraine. This is evidenced by the results of sociological study conducted by the I.Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

Among the respondents at checkpoints, 60% consider themselves to be citizens of Ukraine, 18% - residents of the region.

At the same time, only 3% consider themselves to be citizens of the Russian Federation/USSR, 3% - representatives of their nationality and 5%. - citizens of the DNR/LNR.

5% of respondents were undecided.

A survey of 800 respondents at the entry and exit checkpoints in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts (Hnutove, Novotroitske, Mayorske, Stanytsia Luhanska) was conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation on March 4 - 23, 2019.

As previously reported, on April 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree "On the definition for humanitarian purposes of categories of persons entitled to apply for citizenship of the Russian Federation under simplified procedure", which simplified the adoption of citizens of Ukraine residing in the occupied Donbass to Russian citizenship. Those who have identity documents issued in the "DNR/LNR" with "a note about registration at the place of residence in the territory of the relevant district of Donetsk or Luhansk oblast of Ukraine" have the right to a Russian passport.

The European Union states that the granting of Russian citizenship to residents of the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts is another Russia's encroachment on the sovereignty of Ukraine.

In connection with such actions of the aggressor, an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on this issue will be held in New York on April 25. The meeting will begin at 22:00 Kyiv time.
