The OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger expects that election of a new president of Ukraine will give impetus to the resolution of conflict in the east of the country. He told this to journalists, - Interfax reports.

"We will see if a new opportunity will arise in connection with the development of the situation in Ukraine, the election of a new president. I hope that this will be an impetus that would allow the Minsk agreements to be implemented", - he said.

Thomas Greminger noted that the OSCE is in favor of sending joint peacekeeping forces of the UN and OSCE to the Donbass.

"We offered this option, there are quite different proposals at the moment: Russian proposals, proposals from Ukraine and the USA, and as long as we cannot bring our positions closer, we will not have the opportunity to adopt the UN Security Council resolution, which should be the basis of such an operation. The positions are too different at the moment", - he added.
