Zelensky's team may refuse to debate with Poroshenko. "Do voters need them?"

The debates between the first and second rounds of the presidential election, to which presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky agreed immediately after the results of the exit poll, may not take place if the headquarters of current leader of the race decide that it is not necessary for the voters themselves. This was stated by chief political consultant and speaker of the headquarters of the candidate Dmytro Razumkov, - Tyzhden reports.

"The question is whether this is necessary, and besides, I really do not want to be on the bit. When they try to drag you into this process, because they think they are smarter", - Razumkov noted.

When asked about the conditions and format of the debates, he replied: "We have no conditions. If it is necessary for the Ukrainian voter, sociology shows this quite simply. There was no debate in 2010 and 2014, and it did not affect the election. With all due respect, you did not raise these questions to either Yanukovych, Tymoshenko or Poroshenko. Even today you do not put these questions to Poroshenko or Tymoshenko".

To a direct question, whether Zelensky's headquarters believes that the voter does not need the debate, Razumkov replied: "They know perfectly well that our opponents are great speakers, debaters and distributors of promises. Worse with the performers. Therefore, I suggest going from the opposite. Let them report what they did (not what they say on the squares from the stage), and then we will move on to debates and promises".

According to the results of the National Exit Poll, Volodymyr Zelensky leads in Ukraine's presidential election with 30.4% of the vote, followed by incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko with 17.8% and Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko with 14.2%. Immediately after the preliminary data was announced, Volodymyr Zelensky agreed to hold a debate with Petro Poroshenko. Previously, his headquarters avoided communicating its candidate with journalists in every possible way.
