Russian military forbidden to report their affiliation with Armed Forces of Russian Federation

The law prohibiting the Russian military from reporting through the media or Internet information allowing them to determine their belonging to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been adopted by the State Duma. This is stated in the message on the official website of the State Duma.

It is noted that the relevant amendments to the Law "On the Status of Military Personnel" passed the third, final reading on Tuesday.

The law establishes a "ban on military personnel and citizens called up for military training to provide information to the media or via the Internet that allows to determine whether they belong to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and agencies".

It has been proposed to extend a similar ban to information about comrades-in-arms, as well as family members and parents of military personnel, including "information to determine the location of these persons in a certain period", - the bill said.

Also, the law prohibits servicemen from posting information about their close relatives, comrades-in-arms, command or location of military units. The use of devices that can spread audio, photo, video and geolocation data via the Internet is also being restricted for them.

The need for passing the bill, Russian lawmakers explain, is related to the fact that "military personnel are of particular interest to the special services of individual states, terrorist and extremist organizations".

As previously reported, thanks to the posts and photos posted on social networks, investigators prove the presence of the Russian military in sovereign countries, the fact of which is being denied by the official Kremlin. Unmarked servicemen received the name of "green men" after the Russian occupation of the Crimea.
